EPILOGUE II
(October 2025)
Much time has passed since I wrote Gary's Story, so there is more story to tell. Zachary
and Ryan are in their early 20's now and are beginning to make their way in the world.
Both are doing well. Zachary is now an electrical engineer and Ryan has completed a
trade school and is employed. Sadly, Gary passed away on May 10, 2023 due to the consequences of his injury. Here is a link to his obituary:
Gary's family honored by having me speak at his funeral. It was an emotional task
and hard to complete. The graveside services were the best that I have ever seen. Acting
under the command of a Marine pilot bearing a chest full of ribbons, seven Marines fired
three volleys. A former trumpeter in the US Marine Corps Band played Taps as two
active-duty Marines folded the flag and presented the flag to Debbie. Another Marine
played Amazing Grace on his bag pipes as the detail moved away from the grave site. I
can't imagine how it could have been in a finer manner.
